A type of insurance policy that businesses and organizations purchase to protect them against employee suits for rights protected under several U.S. Acts (i.e.: ADA). The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) interprets and enforces these U.S. Acts. The EEOC recognizes 11 types of employment practices discrimination: age, gender, disability, equal pay, national origin, pregnancy, race, religion, genetic information, retaliation and sexual harassment. It is important to note that there are both federal and state statutes that govern an employer’s liability to its employees.
